I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. Before I became a Genius Brand Affiliate I was a very happy Genius Brand customer.
In 2012, on a whim, I started obstacle course racing. My first competitive event was a Spartan Super (8+ miles, 25+ obstacles) and I came in 4th place in my age group. Although I had been a lifelong athlete and worked out all my life, at age 43, I finally found MY SPORT! I continued racing and eventually started running competitively. In 2015 we experienced a family trauma and I retired from racing and working out regularly.
I found Genius Brand Supplements when I decided to start racing again. At 48 years old, I knew my body was going to need help getting back in shape as quickly as possible.
I had always stayed away from supplements because I could never be sure exactly what was in them and where they were made. But I did know that many athletes used them and had experienced positive results, so I started researching different supplements and brands hoping to find one that met my standards.
The first question most people ask about a supplement is “Does it work?” But my first question is: “Is it safe?” How can you tell? If the ingredients are Trademarked there is a company willing to put their name on it and therefore it’s presumably from a reliable source. Or at the very least you can research the source. And most importantly find out exactly what is in them. The rest of my questions are as follows.
Do I need this in supplement form or can I get enough in my regular diet? Sometimes the answer is yes, but not in a practical way. For instance, I’m not going to eat a steak during a race or a workout to get the BCAAs I can get more efficiently from a supplement.
Can my body absorb the nutrients in the supplement as they are combined? For this you’ll have to do some research. Some nutrients don’t play well with others, so taking them together is just a waste of money.
Does the supplement contain a “proprietary blend?” And if so does that blend contain any stimulant like caffeine, sugar (in any form), or green tea? If so, I am not taking the supplement because I don’t know how much of the stimulant I am ingesting. If it contains a large amount of a stimulant, my body will become reliant on that stimulant and I’ll experience withdrawal symptoms if I stop taking it regularly.
Genius Brand was a new source when I started researching and their products met all my criteria. I’ve found that combined with a healthy diet and regular training plan, I am meeting my fitness goals much faster than I was without the supplements. Obviously, you should do your own research and consult your doctor before taking any supplements.
